Certificate to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS)
Overview
This certificate is the accredited qualification for teachers in the lifelong learning sector and leads to Associated Teacher in Learning and Skills (ATLS) status.
This is a blended learning course consisting of 6 days of study with 3 projects set over the period of study. You will be required to read the course materials and conduct research assignments related to your workplace in addition to the study days. The resources are included in the programme and you will be directed to a range of additional web based resources to support your research. Tutorial support will be offered throughout this period with the tutor and there will be an online peer support group to help you achieve and keep motivated.
Blended learning reduces the time you need to take away from work by reducing the contact time in class. However the study days are important to direct your study and keep you motivated and on track to achieve. You will need to attend 6 study days over the period.
The assignments and research projects will help you to translate your study into relevant and practical learning in your workplace. Action plans will help you to see these changes through to success at work.
The study days will be participative and will offer you the direction and support you will need to complete your assignments. You will be asked to present your findings to the group on occasion as part of the assessments. Because of this, it is vital that you attend each delivery day on your course.
You will be observed teaching over 3 separate occasions as part of the assessments. These observations are carried out by qualified teaching staff on the team and will be supportive in nature. In addition, you will be encouraged to find a suitable mentor within your workplace to support your studies and to give support in subject specialist pedagogy.
