Aims

The assessment and quality assurance qualifications will be part of an integrated suite of Training, Assessment, Quality and Assurance (TAQA) qualifications for practitioners working in, or looking to enter roles in assessment and quality assurance. They have been designed to replace the Assessor and Verifier (A&V) units.

The units will provide the opportunity to develop and improve practice as well as achieve a professional qualification. They are available to anyone working in accredited or non accredited learning.

Objectives

  • Define the principles and requirements of assessment
  • Identify and plan a range of appropriate assessments
  • Clarifying the assessment decision and the learner involvement
  • Manage information relating to assessment of occupational competence
  •  Identify the legal and best practice in assessment.

Target Groups

  • All Community Learning and Skills Development tutors delivering and assessing accredited learning programmes
  • Anyone working in accredited or non accredited learning programmes

Entry Criteria

Entry Criteria: It is expected that applicants will have a minimum of 150 hours teaching practice on at least 2 accredited courses. You will need to have good literacy skills to complete the assessments, it would therefore, be beneficial to have Literacy Level 2 or above.

Course Requirements

The course is made up of 2 units comprising of underpinning knowledge and then practical implications. Learners will build up a portfolio of evidence which will be submitted for evidence of assessment.

The course will be delivered over 4 separate days. There will be a range of interactive teaching and learning activities which are designed to help the building of the portfolio. Learners will be required to attend all 4 days of tuition although there will be some flexibility built in for tutorial time.

Delivery Model(s)

4 days of 6 hours plus tutorial time.

There will be an element of work that needs to take place outside of the taught element. The amount of time will vary for each learner but you should be prepared for an equal amount of time to work at home i.e. 24 hours over the period.

Additional Information

Times: This is a 4 day programme and runs from 9.30am to 5pm. The 4 days will be spread over 1 to 2 months to allow learners to complete the portfolio of evidence

Locations: The course is run where required.

Cost: £250 per learner including the £45 C&G reg fee

Assessment: Assessment is through the development of a portfolio of evidence.

Please note that you will need to provide your own lunch for both days.

  • Where notification of cancellation occurs more than two weeks (10 working days) before the start of the course, there will be no charge.
  • Where 10 working days notice is given a charge of 10% of the fee will be charged
  • Where between 48 hours and nine working days is given, 50% of the fee will be charged
  • Where less than 48 hours notice is given, the full fee will be charged

Learner Support

We will make every effort to provide specific support or equipment to meet individual learning needs. We encourage anyone thinking of joining a course to let us know if support may be needed. Some of the support we provide includes worksheets produced in large text, hearing loops, extra time during an exam, one-to-one help during the course, childcare facilities and adaptive equipment.
